Pregnant or not I've always been interested in natural birth. My mom gave birth to my siblings and me at home. I always took pride in this. I developed my views over the years on what type of birth I wanted. Natural. Crunchy. Home. Water.  Kind of birth. Ted has been great adapting to a more natural birth but still shy's away from home birth for now. He is even willing to jump in the birth pool. After looking over costs, we determined to go with the birth center instead of a home birth. My mother-in-law began to breath again. At the birth center everything is covered. We get a suite that acts as a personal apartment. It is great. But, I still want a home birth. So, we discuss. Sticking to our plan for the time being.

After years of thought going into the birth culture in America and what kind of birth I'd prefer, I have my opinions nailed down. What I haven't nailed down is learning all that I can about breast feeding. It seems so natural yet I find that most new moms don't anticipate the hard work that goes into it. So, I've ventured into educating myself. I'm currently reading: The womanly art of breastfeeding. And plan to read Ina May's guide to breastfeeding next. If you have advice on breastfeeding or information you'd like to share. Go ahead. I'm all ears.

I am a huge advocate for both natural birth and breastfeeding and think they're both equally as important to be educated about, I love finding others who feel the same way :) I had a natural, intervention free birth and it was amazing. I look forward to keeping up with your blog :)

Sweet little momma,
So excited for you and Ted! Kudos to you for seeking natural alternatives for birthing your little one and choosing breast feeding over formulas. Breast feeding is dreamy and miraculous! From one busty momma to another here are a few tips...
1. You will not suffocate Sweet Pea. Get a great supportive bra. You may find, like I found, that traditional nursing bras were impossible. I used a great, regular, supportive bra and just heaved my big ole boob over the top. Lol
2. Don't lose heart. Your body is created to nurse that little boy. Keep working at it.
3. When your milk comes in, you may need to pump. I did. In fact I could have fed an African village! Ha
4. Warm showers will be your friend! Engorged breasts hurt like crazy.
5. Find the position your little guy likes best. One of my nursed best in the football hold, the other was way more traditional
6. Incorporate Ted. Tim used to sit close to me and hold Zach's hand, kiss his forehead and whisper promises in his ear.
7. Nurse as long as you and little one want to. Don't allow society to determine that time frame for you. You'll know.
8. SLEEP. When he's sleeping, you sleep. You will be nursing all the time. You will find it inconvenient, uncomfortable, embarrassing and beautiful, perfect, and empowering. But girl, trust me, if your little man is an eater, you are going to need sleep!!!
