PROJECT: she & he

A NEW SERIES: she & he // the story of us

I adopted this idea from Elise but I'm putting my own spin on it. 'she & he' will be for me to share about us. Our journey through dating, engagement, and marriage. Our mistakes, our victories, and our lives.

Ted moved to New Orleans right after Thanksgiving 2007 for work. He didn't know a soul and became quite lonely. He lived on the deserted part of New Orleans where everything is still closed from Katrina. He was quite the trooper. He was losing hope though and really wondering if New Orleans was going to work out at all. He googled, he found a Steven Curtis Chapman concert at a church nearby.

I was highly involved with my church and in the planning stages of the Steven Curtis Chapman concert had really discouraged the idea. Who listens to Chapman? No one is going to come! I ended up not going because I had a wedding shower for my sister-n-law. Little did I know what Mr. Chapman would bring my way.

Ted enjoyed the concert and reminisced on childhood memories of contemporary christian music. The next day he came back for church, I ended up handing him a visitor's packet and coming back to introduce myself after the service. Our talk was brief due to one rude fellow that interrupted our conversation. I tried to seem not bothered and went about my business.

During the next week, I went to lunch with four ladies and they kept talking about the 'new guy'. I kept quiet. The next Sunday we ran into each other by the bathrooms. We both  greeted each other with the wrong name, Jed and Cameron. We corrected each other and moved on to talking about velcro shoes.

Ted walked up to me after service and asked me to coffee. Very direct, I thought this was a refreshing since most boys aren't so brave. I said yes and gave over my phone number.

I met him at a coffee shop around the corner from my house. He brought a Dr. Sues book. Yes, you read that correctly. His idea was a coffee shop is where people like to read. He thought it would be fun to look like he was reading Dr. Sues when I arrived. I got the joke, but didn't get the humor. We talked. We laughed. We swapped stories.

The next day upon arriving at work I told my two coworkers that it went well but didn't see anything ever happening. He's young and kind of immature. (He was so excited to be having social interaction that he was overly giddy and hyper.)

Three days pass and my phone rings as I'm doing homework with Dominick and his brother. Dinner Saturday night? Umm, ok. Ok, see you soon. I was oddly excited. Saturday night he picked me up, we went to dinner, a jazz club, and I noticed what a great guy he is.

This is the very first picture of us. A friend a Ted's had come from Texas for a visit and snatched it.
