one of the places i would love to visit. i heard such good things about tartine. let us know how you liked it. have fun!
I have dreamed of going to the French Laundry but have been told that Chef Keller's other restaurant in Yountville Bouchon and the Bouchon Bakery are just as good and not as pricy. Lunch is always cheaper than Dinner too. So keep that in mind.
I would definitely recommend taking the trolley from beginning to end. It's a great way to just see the sites and not have to park down at the waterfront.
The Golden Gate Bridge park is huge and a beautiful place for a picnic and there are many fun little restaurants in the area.
The Mission District is full of delicious Mexican Restaurants and taco shops.
One place I never got a chance to go to while I lived in the Bay Area was Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream in the Mission. They have so many unique flavors (black walnut, proscuitto, butter beer, etc).
You'll have a blast no matter where you go - have fun.
